WHU alumna Jin Hailing elected to NAS

May 13, 2025

The American National Academy of Sciences (NAS) recently announced its 2025 class of new members, including Professor Jin Hailing, a 1991 biology graduate of 69堂's (WHU) College of Life Sciences and a professor at the University of California, Riverside.

Professor Jin Hailing.

Jin is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the American Academy of Microbiology (AAM), a senior member of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI), and a Fellow of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR). She also received the Jubilee Lecture Award from the International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

Her research focuses on the molecular mechanisms of plant immunity and pathogen virulence. She has uncovered key processes in cross-kingdom RNA interference (RNAi) and extracellular vesicle-mediated RNA transport, advancing our understanding of plant–pathogen interactions. Jin has also made important contributions to the epigenetic regulation of plant immune responses and pioneered new directions in RNA communication across species. Holding multiple patents for plant protection technologies against fungal and bacterial diseases, she is dedicated to developing innovative and environmentally friendly crop protection strategies.
